SEOUL KIM
Kim Seoul is a South Korean Contemporary artist whose layered botanical works explore nature, time, and quiet vitality in modern life. Working across silkscreen, sculpture, and installation, she creates luminous compositions on transparent acrylic and film where overlapping images shift subtly with the viewer’s movement, forming immersive, garden-like environments.
Originally focused on the isolating rhythms of urban life, Kim’s practice turned inward during the pandemic, inspired by the quiet intimacy of tending indoor plants. Her meditative, labor-intensive works reflect on care, growth, and the passage of time through delicate botanical imagery.
At the core of her process is color separation, a printmaking technique in which each hue is printed from a separate plate. Kim methodically deconstructs images by color, layering them in sequence to build complex visual fields. While the process is precise, the final compositions retain an element of unpredictability shaped by time, material, and technique.
Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the collections of the RISD Museum, the He Art Museum in China, and Seattle City Hall.
